Kicking and Plans And Excitement

Kicking, kicking, rolling, kicking - all the time!  Day and night!  This kid is a tumbler!  I'm getting more and more excited to meet Baby Alex!  There he goes kicking me again!

Hubby and I had to talk a few days ago about what to do if Alex decides to come before my sister arrives.  Ideally, he'll wait until a few days into January, but if he's like his older brothers and decides to appear at 36 weeks, 3 days - that'll be right around January 2nd.  So my sister would've just barely gotten down here, assuming she plans to drive down New Years Day.  However, if he decides to come earlier, and my water breaks in the middle of the night when my Dad can't hear his phone, I guess we'll have to just take the kids over to his place and put them in the guest room with Daughter until he wakes up and can bring them to the hospital.  I certainly don't want 3 kids all up in the delivery room with me, and Daughter can't handle both boys in the waiting room for hours on end by herself.

Hopefully, Alex will wait a little further into January, so my sister can get in and settled.  Maybe he'll even wait until the kids get back in school, and then my Dad could just pick them up and bring them to the hospital after school.  My sister wants to be in the delivery room with me, and I honestly have no idea what Hubby's folks and sister will do.  His sister has asked about the baby a few times, but his folks haven't said a word - at least, not that Hubby has mentioned to me, so.....who knows?  It's all fine.  Whatever I try to plan will probably go out the window anyway!  LOL!

Anyway, he's getting closer, and I'm getting more excited!!!

Whiny, Amazing, and Thankful

Ugh.  Pregnant head cold misery is just that:  miserable.  I have been sick the last several days with what I presume to be my daughter's nasty cold/sinus infection stuff.  It has sucked about as much as you'd expect.  I'm still coughing quite a bit today, but it's a productive cough, and I'm feeling better than I was, so I'm glad for that.  But I will be quite glad when it's run its course, and I hope it doesn't take too much longer.  I'm ready to feel good again.  Between waking up every 2 hours to pee and waking up every hour because I couldn't breathe, by Saturday, I was feeling pretty awful.  Today, though, I'm happy to report that I've slept better the last couple of nights, thanks to some help from my hubby and his visiting sister keeping up with the boys for me.

And may I also whine that this Bell's Palsy is still an inconvenient annoyance?  You see, I don't produce tears in my right eye, so if I yawn or cry, only my left tears up.  However, my right eye does water for no apparent reason at various times, and if I happen to be sitting in a draft or trying to type a paper or work on the computer at work, it starts to burn.  Gah.  Not to mention that lack of a smile and a complete inability to laugh at anything because only the left side of my face can laugh, so I look like the bride of Frankenstein.  BUT, I think some of my taste is returning, so there's that.  And, if I smile just a little bit and actually TELL the right side of my face to move, I can get a little bit of a smirk going, which is more than I had before.  But I kind of suspect it's not going to fully go away until after I deliver this little nugget in January - if it ever goes away fully.  Y'all say a prayer about that for me, will you?

Anyway, the baby is kicking, kicking, kicking at random times during the day or night.  Last night, he kicked so hard, I could see my hand moving up and down on my belly.  I rushed downstairs, so Hubby could try and feel it, and, of course, he wouldn't do it again.  Little snot.  LOL.  I can't believe we're at 27 weeks already.  I look like I'm about to pop, but I feel pretty OK, despite some serious lack of sleep lately.  I guess this is technically considered the last week of my second trimester, so can we all say:

WWWOOOOAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Whose third TRIMESTER starts next week????  Holy cow, how did this go by so fast?  And holy cow, I have so much left to do to get ready for this kid!  And Great Scott!  WHEN is my sister going to be here to help me?????  WWWWAAAAHHHHH!!!!

OK.  Just a mini meltdown there.  I'm OK now.  I am actually looking forward to the holidays this year.  Our last Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas as a family of 5, and can you believe next year (Lord willing), we'll be a family of 6???  Plus my Dad and sister and who knows who all else.  Wowsers.  So amazing.

So thankful.

Thankful for Our Miracle

I wanted to take a moment and just talk about the blessing of a baby.  I realized this weekend, as I was sitting at work, feeling this little kicking and rolling around in my tummy, that I tend to get so caught up with the rush and hullaballoo of life, that I forget to just sit and be quiet and just ENJOY the fact that God has, once again, blessed me with the gift of life.  I don't know why.  I certainly DON'T deserve it.  And I know other couples out there who deserve it much more than I do.

But I'm thankful.

Even right now, he's kicking and fluttering down low in my pelvis.  I imagine him pummeling my insides like he's kicking a soccer ball.  It's so hard to really imagine that there's a whole 'nother human being in there!  Growing and developing, soon to be here with us, a part of our ridiculously ridiculous family.  It's hard to remember sometimes that this is a miracle from God.  Despite the raging heartburn, the constant need to pee, the serious lack of sleep, the sore boobs, the feeling that there's a bowling ball sitting in your tummy all the time, and the good natured ribbing from coworkers about my "trottle," (a cross between a waddle and a trot) - I wouldn't trade this for anything in the whole world!

I wish I had words to describe what it feels like to feel your baby moving inside you.  At this stage (26 weeks), it's not a flutter.  But it's not full blown kicking the ribs yet, either.  That'll come.  It's more like some alien being pressing buttons, maybe trying to find the escape route.  It doesn't hurt yet, although when he's bigger, it'll get really uncomfortable.  Sometimes I feel like there'll be a foot hanging out of my hoo-ha any moment!  He's just that low and heavy.  And sometimes, when I get dehydrated or stressed or I'm all busy at work, he gets so high and tight.  Almost like he's balling up or maybe sticking his little butt up at me or something.  Sometimes those Braxton Hicks contractions are REALLY uncomfortable!  Not quite painful, but not far off, either.

I don't know.  I guess I just wanted to record this before I forgot about it in all the rush of having a newborn in the house.  I don't want to forget to be thankful to God for His miracle.  You see, I'm carrying the baby, but it's God who kissed him gently on the forehead and placed him in my womb when he was conceived, knowing he'd find warmth and love and gentleness in our home to grow up in.

Chaos and noise and mayhem, too, but we'll let him grow into all of that on his own.

I'm thankful to God for Baby Alex, and for His provisions for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby and for everything we need as a family as we welcome him into our lives here in the next several weeks.  He's so loved already, and I can hardly WAIT to meet him and cover his little face with Mommy kisses!

Good Ultrasound, Braxton Hicks, and Health!

I wish I had some super exciting pregnancy news to share.  Wait, I do!  Our ultrasound this past Monday looked really good.  Baby A's spine looked fine.  Even having to wait an extra hour for our scheduled 5:15 appointment was OK, even though Hubby fell asleep in the waiting room and started snoring for a minute...

At least this time, the tech turned the screen where I could see it, too.  Our last tech didn't bother, so Hubby got to watch all the baby moves while I could only stare at the ceiling.  My doctor recently moved into new offices and hasn't yet installed the "mommy cam" in the ultrasound room.  I thought it was kind of piss poor for that last tech to not even try to turn the screen for me, since it was the big, gender reveal ultrasound.  She did finally turn it for about 5 minutes at the end when she was taking the pictures.  But anyway, this ultrasound tech was nicer, and we all enjoyed watching Baby roll around the screen.  Daughter and boys all thought it was pretty neat, although Big Boy couldn't figure out where the baby was actually supposed to be!  ("It's dark in there!")

I'm having lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, especially when I'm at work or when I walk a lot.  I know they're nothing to worry about, but they sure are uncomfortable.  I don't remember them being quite this uncomfortable the last times, but I probably just don't remember.

I am hoping to get a crib mattress this weekend, so we can finish setting up the crib.  At least then I'll feel like we're having a proper baby!  We gave Daughter our queen size guest room bed and put her old twin bed in the nursery for use by whoever has baby duty that night.  We're going to put Daughter's old pull out couch in the boys' room to get it out of the nursery, then place our glider into the nursery for those midnight lullabies!  I'd really like to get that glider recovered.  It's an old hand me down that a friend of a friend gave us when I was pregnant with our oldest boy, and it's never matched anything around here.  I wonder how hard it would be to get it recovered with at least a neutral fabric?

Anyway, Baby A is kicking a lot more now, including in some very uncomfortable spots.  I am looking like I'm 9 months preggo when I'm only 6 (the joys of starting out already looking 6 months preggo).  Everybody thinks I'm about to pop and look at me funny when I say I have at least another 10 - 12 weeks to go (if Baby A follows in his brothers' footsteps).  But as I've said before, I'll take uneventful any day.  I'm just thankful that we're all, so far, healthy.

I'm also thankful that the head cold I began coming down with earlier this week amounted only to some congestion for a couple of days and seems to have now dissipated.  I will be SO thankful if I can make it through this pregnancy without being plagued with the frequent sinus infections of pregnancies past!

24 Weeks

Well, Baby A is getting to be quite the kicker!  Our 24 week doctor appointment this week went well, and he's measuring big - which just adds to my speculation that he'll be here at least a couple of weeks before his projected Jan. 27th due date - just like his big brothers.

My Bells Palsy is getting better.  I can sort of smile again, although laughing is still very one sided.  I don't have much eyebrow movement yet, and my right eye still dries out and burns because it doesn't close fully, but I have seen progress and hope for a full recovery prior to my delivery.  I sure would like to smile in my pictures with my newborn.  Crossing fingers...

In other news, we are slowly registering for stuff on target.com, although there really isn't much we actually need.  Since we've decided to go with the same teddy bear nursery we had with the boys, so we don't have to buy new stuff, all we really need, besides a crib mattress, is just diapers and onesies and wipes.  I'll probably get one more crib sheet.  We'd love to get another swing, and we do need a car seat, but we'll probably get that stuff as we go along.  My work friends are apparently planning a shower for me, which is super sweet, considering this is our 3rd kid (and we sold most of our baby stuff at a yard sale 2 years ago, oops!!).   But overall, I think we're in good shape!

Other than that, we're all good.  I have another ultrasound next week to check the baby's spine.  I'm excited to see him again!!

Teddy Bears

Well, baby A has been giving me some good wallops lately!  Even as I was dealing with a very stressful day at work yesterday, I could put my hand on my belly and feel him rolling and kicking around!  It made me smile.  There's nothing quite like feeling your baby alive and wriggling inside you.

So Hubby and I have decided to stick with the same nursery theme we used for the baby's big brothers.  Since they were 17 months apart, it was only natural to use the same theme for them both, as Little Man was barely into a toddler bed by the time Big Boy came along.  A couple weeks ago, I found our old teddy bear crib set and wall hangings.  Since the nursery wall is already golden, and the bears match without repainting required, we're going to stick with it.

I'm getting kind of excited to meet our little boy.  I'm also excited to get another ultrasound in a few days.  I didn't get a bonus ultrasound with the first two, and I'm hoping I'll see more action this time than I did the last.

Everything is still looking and feeling great!  About 3 more months or so to go!
